When Jesus died, did the centurion call him the Son of God or a righteous man?
Matthew 27:54, "When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, 'Surely he was the Son of God!' "
Mark 15:39, "And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, heard his cry and saw how he died, he said, 'Surely this man was the Son of God!' "
Luke 23:47, "The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, 'Surely this was a righteous man.' "
According to both Matthew and Mark, the centurion standing near the cross of Jesus exclaimed, "Surely this man was the Son of God!" However, Luke records the centurion's words as, "Surely this was a righteous man."
"Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better. The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth."
(Ecclesiastes 7:3-4, KJV)
"Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun."
(Ecclesiastes 8:15, KJV)
